The 9th Annual "Rails in the Garden" Tour will be held on
Saturday and Sunday, March 10th and 11th, 2012.
All layouts are open both days from 10am until 4pm.
The Rails in the Garden Tour is a self-guided, driving tour of eight garden railways. Tickets include maps and directions to each railroad. For 2012 there are two garden railways that are new on the tour as well as some annual favorites. Many railways on the tour have been expanded or have added features/scenes for 2012. This year’s layouts are located primarily on the east side of Tucson and you can visit all eight venues as often as you wish. Some of railways that will be open for viewing include:
- the garden railway at the Tucson Botanical Gardens
- a large, 4000 sq. ft. old Arizona themed pike
- an Old West themed layout
- a railway featuring scenes from the owner’s early life in the Midwest
Each garden railroad shows a unique approach to the integration of gardening and model railroading. The diversity of the railroads and gardens promises to provide another interesting tour.
Again this year, we will be collecting donations for the Community Food Bank.
If you would like to make a donation of non-perishable food items or cash to the Food Bank, there will be collection boxes and gift receptacles at each railroad.
The Tucson Garden Railway Society is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. Funds raised by tour ticket sales help fund the Society’s projects at the Tucson Children’s Museum, Tucson Botanical Garden, the Diamond Children’s Center, Tucson Medical Center, Veteran’s Administration and our modular displays at various locations throughout the year.
